Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a difference between your service compared to others?
Yes, we are the only ones using the same Haenni scales as used by the Road Authorities in Australia and in most of the world – and these scales cost about six times as much as what most mobile operators are using. And we think you will find that the advice and overall knowledge imparted during the weighing – to be arguably second to none.
Do I really need to weigh my caravan or tow vehicle?
Yes — even if your setup feels “fine,” The weak point in many vehicles is their rear axle weight tolerance and is an unknown entity to most drivers and you must comply to all requirements – not just the ones more easily recognized. Over 70% of setups are overweight.
So, my saying remains true – if you don’t know then you don’t know – and once you do, then you do.
Can you come to my home or caravan storage facility?
Absolutely. We’re fully mobile and regularly visit homes, driveways, caravan parks, storage yards and even workplaces across Victor Harbor and surrounding suburbs.
How long does a weigh-in take?
Most appointments are concluded within the hour. This includes weighing your vehicle, reviewing your compliance, and discussing your results with clear, personalised advice. The comprehensive report and safety check printout is discussed so all is clearly understood.
What happens if I'm overweight?
We’ll explain exactly which part of your setup is over and offer practical solutions — from load redistribution to setup changes. You’ll get a printed report to help guide your next steps.
On occasion, the recommendation needs to include the changing/ upgrading of the vehicle or trailer and this is covered very comprehensively.
Can you weigh large trucks or motorhomes?
Yes. Our Haenni scales handle up to 10 tonnes per wheel, which means we can accurately weigh everything from semi-trailers to heavy motorhomes. The largest truck we have weighed consisted of nineteen axles and many tiny houses and river house boats have been weighed successfully.
Will this help with insurance or registration?
Yes — a weigh-in helps you prove compliance and avoid the risk of insurance claim denials. It’s also helpful for new registrations, setup changes, or modifications.
“While the easy going ‘she’ll be right’ Aussie attitude has its place, one place it doesn’t work is when towing a trailer. Knowing weights, braking and mirror requirements – and sticking to them – are vital for safe and legal towing.”
